Even More Track Time

It seems that I simply can't get enough track time... and that pretty much sums it up. I'm forever looking up the next track day or tuning session, just to get back out there. I'm even heading back to the drags as I haven't been in months and the season ends this May.

More info about the DRAG KINGS AND DRAG QUEENS edition of Whoop Ass Wednesday is HERE.
Anyway, back to the track... There were two full sessions in the dry out of about 8 or 9. We had a rotation of 15 minutes on, 30 minutes off. Tell ya what, we were rushed to have a piss and grab some food! I missed one session after lunch because a shower was passing through, luckily I did because about 3 laps into the session it started belting with rain. The rest of the day was wet but it only sprinkled. Unlucky for the Advanced group as they managed to cop all the rain for most of the day.

Superb photos by Dugy from Sunburnt Photography. Jeez he makes me look fast - mind you, I was booting through that left hander!

In other news, Savi (once again) managed to bin it, busting up his bike a little more than usual. He actually had some fairing damage this time. And the most unique brake lever I think I've ever seen.

Cheers to the crew (Dan, Dave, Lyle and Savi) that were up there, at least I had someone to bag out on me for riding like a girl! I had a blast, even in the rain and I'm looking forward to maybe doing my race licence...

Kowalski! Progress Report!

So what really is going on with the 400? Well, slowly things are starting to come good again. I've got some new front foot pegs by Oberon, and a new screen from Eagle Screens. (Yes, I know my rims are dirty).

Still need to sort the rego paper for the new rego disc

Mmm, tinted screen

The 400 also needs new oggy knobs and that scratch sorted out. Otherwise, its mechanically A1. It'll be getting a wash tomorrow along with the R1 - which STILL needs the suspension done and that damn sub-frame bolt fitted.

Hilarious Hilarity

Regarding my "new look" at Jono's Very Excellent Thursday Party, I was chatting to Sean online tonite, and he came out with this gem...

maya says (20:57):
im thinking of getting a new ipod
maya says (20:57):
but the one i have is fine
maya says (20:57):
i need to stop buying things
Sean says (20:58):
yes, yes you do
Sean says (20:59):
unless they are maid outfits, then I should be encouraging you
maya says (20:59):
haha
maya says (20:59):
yeh, i gotta say, i looked alright in that outfit
Sean says (21:00):
you should ask yourself out
Sean says (21:00):
but then there is always the fear of self rejection
Sean says (21:00):
hmmm, tough decision

Ah, cracked me up. Maybe I should ask myself out... but then I'd have to buy myself a drink, and I'm supposed to be reducing my spendings!

Conferences Mean More Time Off Work

So I was at an SDE/ADS Surface Drilling Training Conference at the Vines Resort this week. The training itself was pretty good, I got to know more about the different products we (my company) sell and market. The food was average and the service was appalling.

At least I got to do the "team building" exercise: Go Karting at Wanneroo Kart Hire!
14 of us went from the resort to Wanneroo on the bus and got geared up for 4 heats of 4 laps. Mind you, having experience on a race track (albeit on a motorbike) helped me heaps. Knowing how to take a line was the be all and end all of fast karting.

In session 1, I started 4th and finished 3rd. Session 2, I started 7th and won, lapping 4 people.
Session 3, I started 3rd and t-boned one of the other guys and then got rammed from behind, finished 4th. Session 4, was leading by mid-lap 1 and then spun out on the final turn and got t-boned, came 6th.

Summary, won (and dominated) one race, broke two carts including a bent axle on the race I didn't finish. I came 4th overall. The guy that won the evening upon receiving his trophy thanked me for binning it and taking out all the other fast drivers... *sigh*

That'll Learn 'Em

What happens when I ride into the city and I want to park my bike in the designated motorcycle bay near the Country Road store on Murray street and there's a car taking up 3 of the 4 bays?

I ring up the City of Perth and let them know, give it half and hour, and return to my bike with a smile on my face.

Take your faggety little Daewoo Matiz and go park in a car bay you asshat.

Yes, motorcycle ≠ car.
^_^ keke-lah!

On This Day...

On this day one year ago, a half-Polish, loud, bike-riding, ex-fencing Aussie girl started a blog, and the first post is here.

A year has gone quite quickly to say the least. But rather than reflecting on what has gone (that's what the blog is for), I'm going to set some goals on what needs to happen, and what I want to happen.

I'd like to work away, namely in Sweden with the company I'm with already. I did an engineering degree to be an engineer. I'm not really doing that right now...

I need to be a better friend, and a better daughter. I don't spend enough time with my family and friends.

I'd like to get back into shape. Yes, round is a shape. But I want to be fit. I want to fit in the stuff I bought a year ago. At the moment, that's getting toit.

I'd like to play the piano and my guitars some more. I really don't spend enough time with music any more. I want to play the instruments I grew up with and spent hours upon hours a day on. Especially the piano. I'd like to think I didn't waste all these years...

I'd like to see more of Perth, more of Western Australia, more of Australia, more of the world.
There's so many spots even near my house that I'm only really discovering now. I've been living in Perth for over 18 years now, you'd think I would know the place a little better.

No doubt, there will be future posts detailing whether the above is happening, or not. But for now, its Happy 1st Birthday to www.myvolvowillkillyou.blogspot.com :)

Easter Weekend

Easter Weekend 2007. More track time than you can point a 400 at! This weekend was something truly amazing, in good and bad ways. First things first, I was up for three track days in the space of five days. For Easter Sunday I was booked into an advanced ride day at the AHG track (thanks to Ryan and Robin for buying me that), on Easter Monday I was doing level two of the Trakdayz course, and on the following Thursday I was doing a tuning session at AHG again.

Sunday: AHG
Things started out badly. It was raining, it was slippery, it was cold and generally miserable. Not exactly a perfect start, and the weather certainly didn't instil any confidence in me. I had left my helmet and gloves out on the bike assuming we'd only be having a brief meeting before heading out to the track. This meeting turned out to be an hour-long session. Meanwhile my gloves and helmet were well on the way to growing moss.

With damp gloves and lack of confidence, I jumped on the bike (along with everyone else that felt much the same) and proceeded to attempt to warm up the tyres and do some laps of the track.

Cutting a long story short, we did some slow speed manoeuvring, some emergency braking, cornering, weaving and general body positioning. From there we had free reign of the track (which had dried up eventually over the course of a few hours).

During this free time, I took the time to get my lines sorted and concentrated mainly on getting correct entry and exit speeds, rather than generally belting around the track. I didn't get out of third gear, and I didn't brake more than I needed to. Later in the session as I was starting to get into the swing of things, I came acropper when my foot slipped off the footpeg whilst I had my knee down going around a left hander. I guess it was lucky that my knee was down and it took the brunt of the fall, and my bike didnt have far to go to hit the ground.

I ended up with some scuffs on my leathers, a cracked screen with bent brace, scraped bar end, a scrape on the rear fairing (saved more so by the rear stand pickup bobbin), with no damage to the front fairing or the tank thanks to the oggy knob. Thanks to Amber for helping me start the bike up and Andrea for hosing my bike down from all the rocks and dirt after it slid into the sand.

After getting a little distraught and losing my confidence, Ryan convinced me to get back on the track by starting out doing some laps around the skid pan and making sure the bike felt okay and that no other damage was done.

Within the hour, I was back on the track doing what I love: riding. I chose not to hang around for the tuning session as I was already tired. I didn't want to make any more mistakes, and I didn't want to wear myself out for Monday.

Monday: Wanneroo Raceway
I was in level two for the Trakdayz course, and I was excited that I didn't have to be in the veggie group anymore. I could play with the bigger bikes now, ride with people with more track experience... or so I thought! Again, the day started out badly with some dude who will only be known as "Sete", rudely telling me "that space is taken, mate". I'll give you "mate" Sete. That truly pissed me off. Nowhere are there any spaces allocated, or named or numbered. Its first in best dressed, but being the stupid person that I am, I moved over and parked elsewhere. All his mates in the same group ended parking him in anyway. Sux2bU Sete.

The first two sessions of the day were a little shaky. Wanneroo is a big, fast sweeping track. Coming off a tight technical track into something like this, was scary. Not only that, but I'd forgotten how to ride it. Of course, having an incident the day before also didn't help, so I went slowly and consistently over the first few sessions. I was not however, impressed with the behaviour of certain members of my group overtaking me in the wrong places or chopping me up. In summary, they were riding like dicks. Not all of them, just a few of these "mates" that were pretty much racing each other.

Sete got a few warnings about his general bad attitude towards everyone else on the track, and he was even caught on video doing wrong, but still, he rode like a dick and I just got angrier and started losing more confidence. He was essentially ruining my day.

One of the instructors suggested that I drop down into group one, saying that I'd be faster than most of them on the track and that I'd have more free space to ride like I should have been doing as soon as I got on the track...

So I did. Into level one. Like being a complete n00b. I felt completely different. I knew Sete was not on the track at the same time as me, I knew that I would have some more space, and I knew I could have more fun. And I sure as hell did. It was like starting anew, I was confident, I was getting off the bike more, and I was having FUN! It only took up two-thirds of my day to get there!

^^^ Props to Matt and Dugy for their excellent photographs - you guys make me look fast when I was riding like a girl.

In all, it was a good day and I took many things away with me. That night Tash organised a PSB dinner at an Italian Restuarant. Most of the time was spent chatting and catching up with fellow members, scribbling in crayon on the table papers, throwing bits of chocolate egg and enjoying a good meal.

Thursday: AHG again
It was all on again at AHG, with a busted bike with bits of race tape all over the place holding the screen together and masking the scrape on the fairing. The session was held in reverse orientation which meant more right handers (spew!), but towards the end I was really enjoying the track - it was like learning it all over again. It was a great day for more track time, with the sun out and a slight breeze.

The Very Excellent Thursday Party

Again, its been a while since I blogged. A few things have happened: the R1 is legally mine, my new boss at work came for a visit from Sweden (although he only starts officially in June), Scott finally left for Canada (jeez I cried a lot), went for a spin with the boys and girls to York, Toodyay and Northam a few weekends ago.

I've been waiting for ages to go to Jono's Very Excellent Thursday Party - it was fancy dress...
Sean and I had previously made a visit to Adultshop to pick out a nice costume for me, a corrupt cop outfit called Ivana Bribe. Unfortunately me being as busy as I was this week, I only managed to get around to picking it up yesterday... none left. So French maid it was.

It ended up being a really good night, albeit a shortened one. Cheers to Sean for letting me crash the night, and to Simon, Annie and Glen for keeping me entertained, particularly the drive home and the "juicy burgers".
