I've had a wheelie good weekend. Why? Because I spent it with great mates... and above all, I did my first killer wheelie yesterday. To say it scared me, is an understatement. I was fearing for dear life. Having the horizon change on you is a unique feeling... it doesn't even compare to the change you get when you're going around the race track at full tilt... its all just up. Just sky. No road, no trees, no bike. Was scary to say the least. At least I know now that around 5,000 rpm if you snap it on, it'll come up. Quickly.
Post wheelie, I enjoyed a beer at Little Creatures and a meal at Ciccerello's with grilled fish, prawn kebabs, chilli mussels, oysters kilpatrick, calamari and a bundles of chips with salad. I then spent the evening playing pool and generally kicking back.
Today, was mint. This morning I rocked up to Scarborough on the R1 and met up with fellow riders from PSB to head into Northbridge for some Yum Cha. (no chicken feet this time, thank God). Met up with Hornet, Robin, Alex, Tim and the rest of the gang for spring rolls, pork buns, jasmine tea and salt and pepper calamari. There was lots of eating and general foody noises being made as everyone chowed down like they were saving up since last week. After Yum Cha I met with Ryan and headed up to Fremantle for some shopping and loitering in general. Most of Fremantle was blocked in because of some sort of rally but we parked up and went around the main drag. Luckily we managed to catch the end of the rally where there was a small band playing some funky tunes. We danced up a storm in the middle of an empty road on the main café strip in Fremantle, getting funky the whole way up the street.
After walking around a little and realising that Fremantle is pretty boring, we decided to head to the city in search of something more. On the way across the narrows bridge, Ryan was signalling what looked to me like a dome, so I figured we were going to have a coffee at Dome Café. What he meant was that he wanted to go check out the Federation Walkway at King's Park. That was something that I had always wanted to do, I was stoked that the weather was so nice as well, and the view.....!
We never ended up in the city, instead we crashed out up the road at the Old Swan Brewery with a beer, a mocha, a coke and good ole fish and chips.
Later in the day, as I had been hoping for, I finally had the suspension on the R1 adjusted. THANK YOU RYAN!!! for your help, tools and patience with me today :) The R1 finally handles like it should and isn't as stiff as boards as it used to be. Not surprising considering that it was set up for a dude that was over 6 feet tall and weighed on the short side of a cricket tonne.
The rest of the weekend (all 4 hours of it) I will be spending drinking a nice cold Bellevue Kriek and having a snack.
