Hiho Silver Awaaaaaay!

I packed my shit early on Saturday morning for the 4WD trip out to Cervantes. Like any good road trip, you need to kick it off with a good breakfast. What better than a large Quarter Pounder with cheese meal from Maccas!

Post Maccas it was up to Brand Highway (where a wrong turn never killed anyone) and up to Regans Ford for a dunny break and some tennis balls. It was my one request that someone bring a cricket set for some beach cricket.

The drive up was fairly uneventful as we decided to make a bee-line straight to Cervantes, grab some food and check out the Pinnacles whilst the sun was low.

Raj, Rachel, Julz and I at the Pinnacles

From the Pinnacles we headed up some tracks to some secluded beaches, a little too windy to be all nice and romantic, but it was still cool to know that not many people venture out as far as we did, let alone walk out from the main driving track to run up sand-dunes. Awesome view.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

After much touristy stuff we we crashed out at the pub for a cooked cray with chips and the $5 drink specials. I still managed to get a nap in before dinner, just to work up those enzymes! Dinner was tres bien! We then continued back to the lodge (where I stayed on this trip) for Bacardi Black and I ended up conking out not long after 9pm. SOFT!

I heard a symphony of snoring from Raj and Julz during the night, with an occasional crescendo which normally resulting in someone turning over whilst sleeping.

Next morning when packing our stuff back into the fourby, I managed to locate and collect the tow ball with my right knee - which has bruised up quite nicely, thanks for asking :) It was off to the servo for breakfast and some killer pythons.

It was onto more 4-wheel-driving action as we headed down the 4WD tracks to Lancelin from about 11am. We took many a wrong turn and right turn, all of us had a go at driving (or attempting to) and generally checking out the scenery. We spotted some emus and kangaroos, but the only one I could get a photo of was a dead one.

Emu (I swear it was gonna charge at the car)
Dead roo

When we did FINALLY arrive at Lancelin about 4 and a half hours later we had worked up a hunger and were keen to check out the pub. Unfortunately they weren't serving food till later in the day so we did a lap of Lancelin and spotted a new café that had opened. I ripped into the Sweetlip Snapper and chips and a beer... Mmm!

Sunday concluded with a game of cricket in the carpark of the restaurant which was about 50m from the beach. We managed to blow out two tennis balls and work up a sweat. "Bowling Shaaaaaayne" was the call. It was windy and pretty cool, but with the long fine breaks, a great weekend in all, with superb company.

Scottie!

You may remember that I bought a 2003 Yamaha YZF-R1 about two months ago...

Well, it was from this crazy pseudo-Canadian!

I was really excited when I got an email today with some photos that were taken at the airport just hours before his plane took off en-route to Canada. Apparently he's having WAY too much fun working there but is looking forward to coming and visiting home in April 2008. :)

Dedication or Lunacy?

I don't know what came over me today, but I was compelled to actually do some work. Compared to flagging half a day yesterday because it was just too much...

I was on the phone with the technical managers, the training department and product managers trying to sort out some issues with a rig on the east coast. Damn I wish I wasn't doing two jobs, otherwise I'd be on the frontline with 'em. It's frustrating to see my previous projects stuggling in the field, and there's so much work for me right now, I can't get out there and help out. So there I was till nearly 7pm at work, unheard of. The sun had been down for over an hour, it was cool, all the doors were locked and most of the lights were off. I took the opportunity to crack some tunes, namely Mattafix and Björk, with some occasional homie shite. I cranked out $3.8Mil worth of orders; now that is dedication. Or Lunacy. I had finally managed to do my job without others annoying the shit out of me.

I did however find out that my new laptop and Blackberry are on the way soon :) Technology +++ and that there are new positions open in Sweden as a designer...

So like, its Wednesday. Why am I not at the drags? I think my season is as good as over. Not motivated, not interested. I will however be "working" on the bikes for next season. Maybe some selective gearing? Straps? Who knows. All I know is that it needs more speed.

It's another day closer to the weekend. Busting for it actually. Julz and I are heading out to Lancelin and Cervantes for mega-four-wheel-drive-fun-time! And hopefully some famous Cervantes crays for lunch. Mmmm. Oh, and must remember to take ear plugs to reduce the impact of snoring... *that means YOU Julz!*

Eleven Flat

When I went to work last Wednesday, I took the R1 in. I've noticed that I prefer commuting on the R1 compared to the 400 - which has been left out a little in recent times. It was a last minute decision, but off I went at 4:30pm to Kwinana to the Perth Motorplex for another dose of Whoop Ass Wednesday. I hadn't been for ages and I was looking forward to seeing what the R1 was capable of.

Proof that the R1 made it to the drags
Lined up

Happier times - *Ridgey Didge*
(now how many of you are old enough to remember that?!?!?)
Once I had been through scrutineering I started to get a little nervous. I'd never taken the R1 to such speeds as I thought I'd be doing at the drags (fyi: 206km/hr). I ended up doing 5 passes on what was a pretty average night. Lots of issues with cars blowing shit up and way too much rice!

First pass was a decent 11.4, then I ran an 11.1 (beating the PB of a fellow biker with the same bike). The times waivered around mid 11's till my last pass of the night which was a surprising 11.006 seconds! I was stoked!

I'm looking forward to making the R1 run 10.5's - I think the bike can do it. I also have the benefit of drag experience (and a weight advantage).

Compounded

In this edition of Death by Volvo, that "girl" becomes the centre of attention. Bad attention. I'm being frowned upon from a great distance by many. A continuation of the saga that once was and realistically; still is. Too many words? Yeh, pretty much. In short, feeling sad. Sad that my friends don't think that I'm the person I used to be. I'm not as nice as I used to be. Not as kind. Not as caring. Not as smiley. Where did she go...?

Lots of things have compounded in my life right now. Stress at work, at home, amongst friends. It's starting to hurt. Actually, it's been hurting for a long time. What to do now? www.suckitup-princess.com

No excuse.

A Wheelie Good Weekend

I've had a wheelie good weekend. Why? Because I spent it with great mates... and above all, I did my first killer wheelie yesterday. To say it scared me, is an understatement. I was fearing for dear life. Having the horizon change on you is a unique feeling... it doesn't even compare to the change you get when you're going around the race track at full tilt... its all just up. Just sky. No road, no trees, no bike. Was scary to say the least. At least I know now that around 5,000 rpm if you snap it on, it'll come up. Quickly.

Post wheelie, I enjoyed a beer at Little Creatures and a meal at Ciccerello's with grilled fish, prawn kebabs, chilli mussels, oysters kilpatrick, calamari and a bundles of chips with salad. I then spent the evening playing pool and generally kicking back.

Today, was mint. This morning I rocked up to Scarborough on the R1 and met up with fellow riders from PSB to head into Northbridge for some Yum Cha. (no chicken feet this time, thank God). Met up with Hornet, Robin, Alex, Tim and the rest of the gang for spring rolls, pork buns, jasmine tea and salt and pepper calamari. There was lots of eating and general foody noises being made as everyone chowed down like they were saving up since last week. After Yum Cha I met with Ryan and headed up to Fremantle for some shopping and loitering in general. Most of Fremantle was blocked in because of some sort of rally but we parked up and went around the main drag. Luckily we managed to catch the end of the rally where there was a small band playing some funky tunes. We danced up a storm in the middle of an empty road on the main café strip in Fremantle, getting funky the whole way up the street.

After walking around a little and realising that Fremantle is pretty boring, we decided to head to the city in search of something more. On the way across the narrows bridge, Ryan was signalling what looked to me like a dome, so I figured we were going to have a coffee at Dome Café. What he meant was that he wanted to go check out the Federation Walkway at King's Park. That was something that I had always wanted to do, I was stoked that the weather was so nice as well, and the view.....!

We never ended up in the city, instead we crashed out up the road at the Old Swan Brewery with a beer, a mocha, a coke and good ole fish and chips.

Later in the day, as I had been hoping for, I finally had the suspension on the R1 adjusted. THANK YOU RYAN!!! for your help, tools and patience with me today :) The R1 finally handles like it should and isn't as stiff as boards as it used to be. Not surprising considering that it was set up for a dude that was over 6 feet tall and weighed on the short side of a cricket tonne.

The rest of the weekend (all 4 hours of it) I will be spending drinking a nice cold Bellevue Kriek and having a snack.

Fortune Cookies

It was my parents 25th Wedding Anniversary dinner on Saturday nite and we had a family dinner at Han Palace in East Perth. After a bottle of wine (both mum and I) we had finished eating and I ordered 3 fortune cookies. Mine said:
Pay attention to the powerful feelings you are having.
Mmm. Profound. Now what the f**k does that really mean? I know. It means I'm still hungry and I should go back there for more food.
