Far out, what a hell of a day.
About 20 minutes ago I submitted my initial comments on a discussion on Mark-to-Market accounting for my Financial Management 550 unit. The problem was that I only realised the due date about 3 hours ago. I hope for my own sake that I got a few good comments in there, otherwise the rest of the discussion is going to be pretty grim. Anyway, the first part is only worth 5%, but of course, I'm not here to just pass, I want a good grade!
On the other hand, my Economic Analysis and Asian Economies 551 unit is going great guns. I'm well ahead on the reading and the concepts are pretty basic. However, I'm still finding that I don't have enough time to really get all my work done.
Oh the joy of full time work and part time study! It gives me very little life to live!!
It's not the end of the world, but it sure has made things interesting around the house. I will spend hours just reading and going over the PowerPoint presentations, making notes, going through my diary. Meanwhile, Robin is watching TV alone in the lounge. Sometimes I just want to stop reading and join him on the couch. It's hard to find a happy medium when life gets in the way and study falls at the wayside. I need to keep working hard; I don't want to let myself down now, I've already waited so long...
Lucky for me at the moment, its Saturday night, I have now handed in my comments and I can actually start doing the work my FM unit. As I don't really have plans tomorrow, I will take the opportunity to catch up to where I should be and try to get ahead of the game as I will be in Tasmania all of next week. Even with all my good intentions to take my books with me and do some work over in Burnie, I doubt that I will even have the chance. Like most other times, life just gets in the way.
To those reading this laughing, I know where you're coming from. For someone like me who was so vocal about her hatred of economics and accounting, to be doing it now, makes me the worst of hypocrites. But I have found that this is now "the new black" and if I would like to make something of my career in five or ten years time, I need these foundations for successful business management.
Otherwise, I could always go back to teaching the piano :)

Trimester Two
Things have gotten pretty real the last few days.
My swedish lessons are getting hard, with the grammar nazis out to pounce on the incorrect selection of tense on verbs.
My orientation for the Graduate School of Business was yesterday and I have only just now realised that yes, this is really happening.
My first two units (online) opened on Tuesday. I have read and re-read the unit outlines. I have looked at the first modules. I have completed my "home page". I have even managed to clock up three hours for my professional portfolio so far.
Monday is the official start date. I think I'm fairly well prepared, but I still need to get some more ink for the printer and probably some notepads for scribbles whilst doing essential reading.
I need to refamiliarise myself with my Guild diary and put my due dates in there. I should write up a study timetable.
I think the best part about the study I'm undertaking is that it is half Perth campus, half Bentley campus. I can borrow books from either library, get access to all buildings in both campuses. Its going to be pretty hectic for the next 13 weeks but I'm looking forward to the challenge of returning the study and doing it online!
Wish me luck.
